Femi fadugba 19nov2025

On Wednesday 19th November, we were delighted and privileged to welcome YA author and physicist Femi Fadugba to Cheney. Femi is the author of two young adult novels, The Upper World and its sequel, The Mirror World. Both novels feature time travel, physics and the real life of teenagers in Peckham and London respectively. Think time travel in Peckham!  The Upper World is a brilliant read and is strongly recommended for anyone in year 9 and above.

Femi spoke to 85 year 10 students about his early years and experiences in school, as well as his journey to becoming an author via quantum computing at Oxford University! He was generous with his experiences and quite honest with his thoughts and his talk was truly inspirational and aspirational for our students.

He stayed for lunch and was mobbed by his audience at the end of the talk. I sold out of his books very quickly and the queue for a brief conversation with our visitor was long.

I have wanted to invite Femi to Cheney for some time - we were very lucky that he was able to visit as he was only in the UK for five days (he lives in the US for most of the time). He was also the inaugural signatory on our new author board (see the photo).

With many thanks to Ms Cullen for her invaluable support on the day and to Mr Wilton, our wonderful IT guru without whose support the event would not have taken place. Thanks also to Miss Hutson for attending the event to support us.

Finally the students were a credit to themselves - I was very proud of them all!
