Philosothon UK Final
BackArticle / Posted on 8 May 2025

The Cheney Philosothon Team put in an incredible showing at the UK Philosothon National Final at Eton College on Tuesday 6th May.
As one of only two state schools and the only non-selective state school (the other being a grammar school) in the competition, they beat five other schools (including the hosts, Eton College) in order to come second, in the end losing only to Latymer Upper School by a decimal point. [In Philosothon students participate in four discussions and are scored by professional philosophers out of 25 for each one. The team's final score is an average of all their scores out of 25. Our average integer was tied for first place with Latymer, so it went to decimal places.]
This is an astounding achievement and Pedro and Veronika (captains) in Year 13, Albie, Amelie, Bhu, Isla and Natty in Year 12, and Annie, Maya and Ryu in Year 9 should all be as extremely proud of themselves and their philosophical skills as their coach Dr Tarassenko is of them. Special mentions this time go to Mr Twycross for driving the minibus, and to Bhu who won highest scoring Cheney philosopher.
