- Year 10 Mock Interview Day
Year 10 Mock Interview Day
BackOn Friday 11 July Cheney Year 10 students undertook a mock interview. Despite the 30 degree heat, students came into school in professional dress and they looked amazing. Each student had a ten-minute interview with one of more than 30 'outsiders' who had given up their day to come into Cheney to put our students to the test. Where possible, we tried to match up the interviewer's career with the career aspirations of our students. The day went extremely well and the interviewers were really impressed by our Year 10s. All the students who were interviewed will receive written feedback this week.
Read on to see what our students, and the employers thought about the event:
"When I walked in I was a little nervous but also excited because I didn't know what an interview was like. I had my CV in my hand and with the other I firmly shook the interviewer's hand. I maintained good posture and eye contact for the most part. My interviewer was a very kind woman who specialised in science and research. I was asked about my future plans and aspirations, and the qualities I have. It surprised me how relaxed the interview was. I thought it would be very formal. It went well but could have gone better. In my next interview I will try to have more examples to explain my qualities, as that is what my interviewer said my CV was lacking."

"I prepared for my interview by buying a suit to look presentable. When I walked in I felt confused because I struggled to find my seat. When I finally met my interviewer I gave him a firm handshake and handed over my CV. My interviewer was very relaxed and he asked me questions about what I am like and why I want to work in finance.I learnt during the interview to always be happy and unreserved to create a good impression. In my next interview I will try not to go so red and get so nervous."

"To prepare for this interview I put a lot of time and effort into writing my CV and I also bought a professional outfit to look presentable. When I walked in I felt excited and nervous but once I saw my interviewer I was immediately calmed since it was one of my friends’ mum. Still, I gave her a firm handshake whilst looking her in the eyes and I sat down with good posture. My interviewer was very nice and kind and asked a lot of questions about me and what I'm thinking about doing in the future. I feel it went very well and I learnt that I don't need to stress the whole day for an interview that will only last ten minutes. Next time I will aim to ask more questions. "

"I prepared my CV the weekend before the interview, using a template sent out by the school. When I walked in I felt pretty confident mainly because of how well I was dressed that day. I knew where my table was and shook the hand of my interviewer. I smiled at him and remembered to have a strong wrist when doing the handshake and not to do a ‘wet fish’. Overall my interview went well, with my interviewer complimenting my demeanour and giving positive feedback not just on my answers but also on the way I carried myself. My interviewer was very nice and knew a lot about his area of work, answering all questions I had in detail."
