We were delighted to welcome Tom Palmer (and his dog) to the library via video link from Halifax on Tuesday for two sessions for year 7 and year 8. Tom is the author of 72 books for young people on football and history and he is a perennial favourite amongst Cheney readers. He has now sold over one million books and he is a favourite of mine because his books are very readable, short (hallelujah!) and relevant, not to mention brilliant.

Tom introduced himself and his writing for the first part of the event and then the floor was opened for questions. The students were amazing and they asked insightful and interesting questions, every one of which Tom answered fully and with patience. We learnt about life as a writer, his research techniques and his love of Leeds United. A prize of one of Tom’s books was given to Emir who asked the best question.

I was very proud of our students - they were a credit to themselves and the school in the way they approached the event. Thank you to my wonderful colleagues for their support with the organisation and staffing of the event.
