Engineering for Girls Graduation
BackYear 9 students graduated from their 12 to 18 month long construction programme specifically designed for girls before half-term. Organised by Laing O'Rourke, based in Oxford, the girls undertook the course over 18 months during Years Seven and Eight, finishing with a final session in Year 9.
The course included several modules, such as sessions on health and safety, and a building competition where the girls had to construct wheelbarrows and transport water over a distance using only the materials provided. They also took part in a construction site visit and an introduction to digital design, finishing with a speed-dating event where they moved around different tables learning about various jobs in the construction industry. These included roles such as risk management, health and safety, design, administrative work, and construction engineering. This programme provided the girls with valuable insights into the opportunities available to them within the construction sector. The last session finished with the girls receiving certificates and a goodie bag to celebrate their successful completion of the course.
Congratulations All!
