On Thursday 29th January a Cheney team made up of Jess and Nadia from Year 9, Annie and Maya from Year 10, Cas, Siri and Laila from Year 12, and Albie, Isla and Natty from Year 13 competed at the annual Oxford Regional Philosothon at Magdalen College School.

A Philosothon is a philosophising competition where participants are scored on their live contributions to a philosophical discussion by professional philosophers. The four discussions each student took part in were: 'On Good Things', 'The Racist Dinner Party & Norman the Clairvoyant', 'Ten Rules for a Good Life', and 'The Ethics of Genetic Ehnhancement'. We came 2nd, losing to the hosts this year by 1.4 points (the overall score is an average of everyone on the team's scores out of 25, so this was a great result) but beating another local independent school.

Special mentions this year go to Annie who won highest scoring U15 in the competition overall, Captains Albie and Isla who have now completed their (secondary school) Philosothon careers, and Albie again who won the highest scoring Cheney player. Here's the whole team below with their very proud coach Dr Tarassenko:
