Beetles, Moths and More: Nature Late and Moth Night at Cheney

Last Friday, we were excited to hold our first ever Nature Late festival outside amongst the beautiful trees of Cheney.

Professor Dave Goulson's opening talk gave a fascinating and also sobering insight into both the amazing variety and dramatic decline of insects in recent decades, and then 32 different stall runners ran a wonderful range of stalls and activities, ranging from carnivorous plants to Asian birds, and from endangered sea animals to wildflowers.

Liam Crowley finished the event with a Moth Night for those hardy enough to stay on site until 11pm! We had set moth traps the night before outside J block, and an amazing array of moths were in the traps - including a beautiful ‘Black Arches’ moth, which you can see below, along with other photos of the talk, festival and moth night. These were all released safely back into the night!

Thank you to the many organisations, Cheney museum students, sixth formers who ran stalls and welcomed visitors, to Dave Goulson and Liam Crowley, and to all our visitors too!
