On Wednesday 18th March we were excited and delighted to welcome Nathanael (Nate) Lessore to Cheney. He spoke to year 8 and year 9 in two sessions in the library, which was packed with enthusiastic students.

Nate is the author of three books for young people. His books are immensely popular at Cheney - they are funny and heartfelt and feature characters from real life. His first two books have featured on successive Cheney Choice Award shortlists over the past few years, and he has won many national awards since he published his first novel, 'Steady For This' three years ago.

In his sessions, he spoke about the importance of reading and ways of making creative writing more engaging. He also spoke about the many bizarre things that have happened to him over his lifetime, which he has used in his books—there were tales of cockroaches, pushchairs and unmentionable other things which many of the students recognised from his writing.

Prizes were given for positive engagement and our students asked some brilliant questions. Caper Books supported the event and Nate took the time to talk to every individual student over lunch in the library. Finally, he also signed our author wall in the library.

As ever, I am in awe of our fantastic students. They never fail to impress me and today was no different - they were just great and it made the hard work in arranging the event worthwhile.

A big thank you to Miss Cullen and everyone who helped on the day.

Mrs Fenton, Cheney Librarian.
