Exploring Athenian Democracy in Aristophanes’ Frogs

Our year 12 Classical Civilisation students plus visitors were privileged to hear a fascinating take on Aristophanes’ famous war-time comedy Frogs from Dr Holly Hunt (University of Oxford) last Friday.
Holly explored the parabasis, a part of the play where the chorus address the audience and often give advice to the city of Athens, and explained how she felt that the chorus were more supportive of the recent organisers of an oligarchic coup than might have previously been thought!
It was a fascinating talk, and we’re really grateful to Holly for all her time.
