Cheney basketball teams reach 8 out of 10 County Finals
BackThe 2025 Oxfordshire County Basketball Finals were a massive showcase of school sport at its best — and we’re proud to say Cheney was right at the heart of it.
Across all age groups, our players demonstrated the skill, resilience, and team spirit we’ve worked hard to build all season. As coaches and teachers, we couldn’t be prouder of what they achieved, both on and off the court.
Girls’ Basketball – A Clean Sweep of Finals
We’re absolutely thrilled with how our girls’ teams performed this year — making it to four finals and winning every single one.
-
U19 Girls: Our senior squad led the charge with a powerful performance against D’Overbroeck’s. Their maturity and team chemistry were clear from the first whistle, and they took home the title in style.
-
U16 Girls: A special moment for our year 10 and 11 girls — both our A and B teams made the final, guaranteeing a Cheney win. It was a fantastic occasion, and a testament to the strength and depth of the squad. Congratulations to Cheney A, and huge respect to Cheney B for pushing them all the way.
-
U15 Girls: A hard-fought win against The Oxford Academy showed how far this team has come. They played with real grit and confidence — they’ve developed tremendously.
-
U14 Girls: Another superb performance and a title well-earned with a win over The Swan School. This group plays for each other, and their unselfish basketball was a excellent to watch.
Unfortunately, our U13 Girls didn’t make the finals this year — but the talent is there, and we’re confident they’ll be back stronger next season. The foundation is solid.
Boys’ Basketball – Competitive and Resilient
Our boys’ teams faced tough opposition and did us proud, with four Finals appearances and one title.
-
U16 Boys: Champions! A commanding performance against Bicester School saw us take the title. The teamwork, hustle, and leadership were outstanding — this group has been a pleasure to teach and coach.
-
U15 Boys: A loss to a strong Cherwell School side. Our boys never backed down and showed real mental toughness. We know they’ll use this experience as fuel going forward.
-
U14 Boys: Another greatly contested final, again falling short to Cherwell. Still, we’re proud of how the team carried themselves — they showed great composure under pressure.
-
U13 Boys: They fought hard in a tough final matchup against Cherwell. The progress this team has made throughout the year has been fantastic, and this final is just the beginning for many of them.
